Who we are and what we do

Flotilla 87 Members:

Flotilla 87, the local Coast Guard Auxiliary unit on Lake Anna, is the non military, non law enforcement, all volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard, Department of Homeland Security.

As volunteers, we have chosen to combine our interest in serving the community with a passion for making Lake Anna a safe environment for all of its users.

We are a diverse group of men and women of all ages who bring our unique talents and life skills to the Auxiliary. Our primary mission is to promote boating safety. We do this by:

  1. Teaching classes about safe boating.
  2. Providing complimentary--no penalty--boat safety checks to insure boaters have state required safety items on board. This includes kayaks, canoes, rowboats, PWCs, and sport or utility boats.
  3. Distributing safety related brochures and materials to businesses that deal with the boating public.
  4. And during the summer months, we routinely patrol the waters of Lake Anna reminding boaters about safe practices and assisting those in need of help.

Consider becoming a part of TEAM Coast Guard. Helping others through the Coast Guard Auxiliary is very rewarding and challenging. We are America's Volunteer Guardians! Classes and training are provided. If you are interested in joining TEAM Coast Guard and serving the Lake Anna community -- Call Gail at 804-556-3043 for more information.
